Winter Woodland Wonderland Dress

Woodland Print Crepe Ruffle Dress: eShakti // Necklace: J. Crew // Boots: Steve Madden // Watch: Kate Spade

Around Thanksgiving, I started looking for the perfect Winter dress.  Since I first discovered eShakti several years ago after they contacted me for a collaboration, they have been my go-to for unique, vintage-inspired and classic dresses.  I found this woodland print dress on the Black Friday sale, and adored it!  The little blue birds, rabbits, and deer mixed with floral patterns is so adorable and charming!  I wore the dress to our Christmas Eve service with the J. Crew Necklace I had purchased specifically for the occasion!

Merry Christmas!

 Merry Christmas, my blogging friends!

I'm cozying up for a fun and festive weekend with the people that mean the most to me.  So many sweets have been baked, and special preparations for a short Christmas Eve service at our church.  I can't wait!  I'm thankful for a chance to stop and enjoy.  I'm also excited for a new year and what it will hold.  My desire is that I seek God with all I have in the new year, watching and expecting Him to work in marvelous and miraculous ways.  I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and remember the true reason for the season!  Check back for some exciting collaboration posts coming up (especially my medical friends!).  You won't want to miss them!

Holiday Statement Necklaces

I love a good statement necklace.  But it seems like the opportunities to wear one are somewhat limited.  Christmas is the perfect time to bring them out, especially with all the gatherings, special church services, and parties.  The four necklaces above are probably my favorites in my collection.  And yes, all of them are from J. Crew throughout the years.  :)  I absolutely love J. Crew jewelry, and most of my collection is from them,  just because I feel like they are so timeless and unique!  Since a few of these are from years past, I'm linking some similar.

From top left corner clockwise:

1.  Black and White Floral Necklace (J. Crew Factory (old)/ Similar):  This one has been a favorite for years!  I don't know why, but it just seems to be the perfect addition to every outfit.  I also think it looks reminiscent of the art-deco era or 1920's.

2.  Floral Bell Necklace (J. Crew):  This one is recent and you can get it right now!  I bought this one specifically for my Christmas Eve outfit.  I absolutely love it!  It reminds of the gardens of Versailles, and frankly, any necklace with pearls in it is a win in my book.  This too goes with everything and looks incredibly festive!  Grab one for yourself!

3.  Ribbon and Stone Necklace (J. Crew (old)/ Similar):  This necklace is super comfortable because of the ribbon tie.  I love the victorian feel to the ribbon-tie, and the color is great for autumn/winter.

4.  Brilliant Blue and Grey Necklace (J. Crew (old)/ Similar):  I bought this in grad school and absolutely love it.  I wish it was just a tiny bit longer, but it looks fabulous with a little black dress or grey top.  It's the perfect splash of elegance!

Christmas Favorites

This is the first Christmas in a long time that I actually had a few free weekends and spare moments to think and plan for it.  I wasn't in the midst of crazy residency schedules or busy with grad school.  Work has been hectic, but I was so glad to be able to take a few moments and enjoy some of the pre-Christmas preparations this year!

Here are a few of my favorite things about this time of year:
~Christmas gingerbread cookies
~Lots of hot tea, hot chocolate, and lattes
~Sparkly vintage styled Christmas tree ornaments
~Christmas card writing
~Holiday postage stamps
~Pretty wrappings

~Pretty planner pages dedicated to all things Christmas
~Netflix Christmas Movies (I'm LOVING The Spirit of Christmas!)
~Glittering snow falling outside

~Family time and excitement
~Reminder's of peace and grace
~Reconnecting with old friends

Enjoy this time of year, my friends.  Search for the peace, the hope, the renewal.  Above all the excitement and planning and pretty decorations, I am so thankful for the spirit of renewal that comes with the Christ of Christmas.

It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas!

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas at my house!  Christmas is my favorite holiday, and I absolutely adore vintage and victorian-style Christmas decor.  I found a few bottle brush trees this year which really brighten up the mantle and coffee table.  I chose subtle grey, pinks, and blues as my color scheme.  It's the first year I was able to really decorate, so I thoroughly enjoyed the process!  I can't wait to collect more ornaments and decor when they're on sale after Christmas!

What is your Christmas style?

When God Says "Wait"

Wait.  I despise that word.  It goes against my very nature to "wait."  I've always been on the go, pursuing dreams, busy, busy, busy.  I've always been the one to make things happen, push forward against the odds, and work hard for results.

And that is where God finds me in my weakness and says, "wait."

What? No!  I don't want to wait.  I want results.  I want to see the future.  I want to plan.  I NEED to plan, Lord.

I think the one thing that I struggle most with in my relationship with God is the concept of waiting.  I can have faith that He will move mountains, work miracles in my family and friends' lives, that He can do ANYTHING.  But somehow, when it comes to waiting on His timing in my own life, it becomes my weak point.  All the old hurts and fears and disappointments come welling to the surface, and the doubt starts to surface in my oh-so-practical, let's make a plan-kind of brain.  And it's in those moments when all those feelings surface, when the fear wells up inside of me, that God tells me once again to stop.  Wait.  And in that silence, that moment of stopping- when I just listen for a moment, with my hurt and wounds and fear all exposed- that something beautiful happens.  Like one of my favorite songs by Plumb goes,  I "exhale, breathe in His grace, and exhale."

Does this sound familiar to anyone else?  I want to encourage myself and all of you who find this a difficult concept to grasp, to just be still.  Take a moment of silence.  Let your fears become raw and exposed.  Wait.  And watch Him work.  You know what I'm learning?  He may not work in the way you're praying about.  He may not work in the way you thought.  He may actually be working on YOU.  I pray for Him to change my circumstances, but what if He's actually changing ME in those circumstances?

"Just let go, let His love wrap around you, hold you close, get lose in the surrender, breathe it in until your heart breaks, and exhale! -Plumb (from the song Exhale)

Goodbye Autumn, Hello Winter

Dress: LOFT// Boots: Steve Madden// Hat: TJ Maxx// Pearls and Watch: Kate Spade New York

A few weeks ago, my sometime resident photographer brother-in-law acquiesced to do an impromptu fall photoshoot.  And it just so happened to be perfect timing for the new blog release too!  ;)  The surroundings were dreamy, picturesque, and full of the last hints of Autumn.  I felt a bit like Anne of Green Gables strolling through the dried leaves and sun shadows poking through the trees.

I love the simple things in life.  The little moments where you can't escape the beauty that God surrounds us with.  They are reminders to me to just stop.  Savor the beauty, and soak it in.  When I seem to be down and struggling and just can't seem to find a purpose in any of the muddle going on around me, it's stepping out into the simplicity of nature that gives me a new perspective.  And I'm thankful for that!
