Dansko Darling: The New Santa Fe Collection!

A few weeks ago, one of my all-time favorite companies contacted me to see if I (and a classmate!) would like to review their new Shayla style active shoe from the Santa Fe Collection.  I was in the middle of rounding on my patients, and almost squealed with delight, because I am a die-hard fan of Dansko shoes!

So here's the deal about Dansko shoes in general.  I have scoliosis (a slight lateral curvature of your spine) and have had some other back and knee problems in recent years (yes, old lady here!).  I need all the support in my shoes that I can get.  It might not be glamorous, but that's the way it is, especially when spending long days and nights on your feet.  I bought a pair of Dansko clogs several years ago (have the Grey Prism already, and now really want these), and let me tell you, I was IMPRESSED.  They have gotten me through some insanely intense rotations like trauma and surgery.

So I was really excited to try the "tennis shoe" style of the Santa Fe Collection, and as soon as I put them on, I was like... "oh yes... these are amazing."  The arch support can't be beat, and after running around in them for 3 days of 12 hour shifts in the ER, I'm even more of a Dankso cheerleader!

I have particularly unattractive scrubs on.  I have a problem finding scrubs that are LONG enough, and unfortunately end up having to wear mediums or larges so I have the length, but I drown in them! #tallgirlprobs

Aren't they cute?! I love the colors!

  • Incredible arch support and slip resistance
  • Superior energy return and shock absorption
  • Scotchgard™ for long-lasting stain resistance
  • Dri-Lex® Eco-linings and Cleansport NXT® for wicking and odor control
  • Made with soft and lush Nubuck leather- easy to wipe off when in the OR or ER!
  • A large selection of bright and fun colors- let's be honest, we have to have some fun with our shoes when our scrubs are pretty unattractive!

For any of you in medicine, I would HIGHLY recommend putting them on your Santa List this year. :) You won't be disappointed!

Until next time!
P.S.  Apparently those "rumors" that Google Friend Connect was going to disappear were just that- rumors.  So I've added the gadget back to my sidebar for those that prefer to use that to Bloglovin!

*The Shayla shoes from the Santa Fe collection were given to me for review compliments of Dansko.  All opinions are my own.  If you couldn't tell, I'm a fan. And you should be too! :)

The One About Hair

Hello Friends!
I... have... the ... day... off.  WOW! That never happens!
And I'm using it catch up on some blogging and try to recover from the adrenaline rush that I've been on lately  (necessary to get me through my crazy schedule and big exams).  Good news is the exams went fantastically.  And tomorrow I start in the wonderful world of emergency medicine which I long ago found was where my passion lies (that and trauma).
Anyway!  Last week, I was contacted by Misikko Beauty to see if I'd like to review one of their flat irons.  No brainer on that one... of course I'd like to!  They kindly sent me a 1.5" HANA elite 100% ceramic flat iron for review, and I kid you not, it arrived the next day on my doorstep.  Talk about fast service!
So when the box arrived, I was a little shocked... I kind of figured I'd get a flat iron and that would be awesome enough.  But they sent a whole big box of fun goodies along with it!  It was like an early Christmas!
So the day after I stressed through two extremely hard exams, I popped open that box and gave that gorgeous flat iron a try.

Okay here's the skinny on my hair.  I have a TON of it.  It's always been super thick and super wavy (see my previous post for a toned-down version of "un-done hair".  It has a mind of its own, and most of the time, I simply can't be bothered with trying to do it.  I absolutely hate doing my hair. Just ask my mom and sister.  I am super picky about hair products and tools (I've always hated hair products, except Pantene's new BB cream), and I just don't have the patience to do it. I like my hair when it's all done and curled or straightened, but with my schedule, it usually ends up being put up and out of the way.  So my point is, that flat iron had a whole lot of convincing to do on this girl.

The whole package:  Goodies include an eyelash curler, lipgloss, hairbrush, nail files, fabulous flat iron carrying case, rubber base mat, and of course, the best part: the professional ceramic flat iron!

Fuzzy bathroom selfie while finishing up.
 The Final Product:

I'm convinced.  I love it.

So when I started using the HANA flat iron, my first thought was how easy it just slid through my hair.  I have used the same flat iron since my first year of college (now quite a long time ago), and it always felt pretty rough on my hair.  I had to play a little with the heat settings on my new HANA, but finally found the right one for my hair thickness.  Also, I was surprised at how quick it took to actually straighten my hair.  Like I said, I hate to do my hair because it always takes so long to get through all of it.  It really took so much less time with the HANA.  And it really seemed to bring out the shine in my hair as well.  I went to church afterwards and I got compliments on how my hair looked that day, so I'm considering the HANA flat iron a huge success.  And like I said, it had a lot of convincing to do!
So if you're a picky hair person like me, and are looking for a truly fabulous new flat iron or any other hair tool, check out Missiko Beauty and the HANA line on their website or Facebook page.

This is a sponsored post: the Misikko HANA Elite Flat Iron was given to me for blog review, but all opinions are truly my own.  Like I said, I'm a picky hair person. :)

Thistle Pop-over Top

Hi friends!  I'm back with another outfit post.  Like I said previously, my work has kept me incredibly busy, and my outfits for the ER haven't really been all that fabulous. :)

However,  I am ending that soon, and studying like mad for some exams.  Then I will have a lovely free weekend before starting in Internal Medicine. ahhh!

If there's one purchase that I've really just loved lately, it's my J. Crew Thistle Print pop-over top.  I posted about this before, but truly, it's the most versatile thing ever!  I love the colors too (clearly a favorite of mine!).  It's the perfect top for summer, and even though I'm getting kind of excited for pumpkin spice lattes, riding boots, and school-boy blazers, I'm trying to make the most of my summer wardrobe!  Here are some of my favorite styling options with this top!

Did anyone else pick up this top this summer?

Dressing For The Young Professional: Nautical Yellow

Keeping with my love for navy and yellow, I put together a totally nautical, totally summery outfit... just perfect for a dinner out!  The Tommy Hilfiger bag is one I found at Christmas time and is definitely my favorite!  It's the perfect size, shape, and style!

This last weekend, my mom and sister came to do some shopping and have a girl's day.  It was so fun!  I came away with some adorable Nautica deck shoes, some Anthro knobs for my desk, and a cute Tommy Hilfiger shirt from TJ Maxx.  We always have a fun time when we're together!

Hope everyone has a great week!!!

Dressing For The Young Professional: Pink & Green

Oooohhh how I love this outfit!  Remember those green shorts that I never really wore much and finally styled a few weeks ago?  They're baaccckk! :)  I love this incredibly sunny and summery outfit!  I really love yellow, green, and pink together because they just epitomize summer!  Here's how I styled those green shorts once again:

What do you think of these colors together?  BTW: check out your local TJ Maxx... I found some Lilly Pulitzer items there for a steal!  I bought this adorable Koozie in my favorite print for $3!  It matches my planner :)

Also, after a year of having my sweet baby kitty and not finding any really cute collars, I FINALLY found some cute and girly ones at PetSmart! I couldn't stand the collars that had glitter and skull and crossbones all over them. Ugh.  So Lexie got some spoiling.  I can't believe I've had her for a year.  She has made my life so much better!  She's my baby! :)

Doesn't she look adorable in her preppy little bow collar? :)
Hope you have a bright and cheery day!

A Dress Fit for the Seas

So I went to Target about a month ago and saw this ADORABLE seahorse high-low dress and swooned.  But then I wasn't sure I wanted to pay full-price for it either (I was getting such amazing deals at J.Crew and Banana Republic that I was ruined for anything else! haha!).  So, I let it go.  Then last weekend, I went back, and it was on sale for $15!!! So I grabbed it and ran :).  I don't usually like the high-low look, but I LOVE it with this dress!  It has a classic cut and is so versatile.  I can pair it with a statement necklace or some nautical accessories and either dress it up with heels for work or sandals for some down-time. I just adore it!  And if you haven't gathered by now, I'm a huge sucker for the nautical look!

Dressing for the Young Professional: Green Shorts For Lazy Days

You know that item you've had in your closet forever and just really never worn?  Well I was browsing my closet the other day and in my very small collection of shorts (and by small, I mean like four pairs- I am NOT a shorts-wearer apparently), I pulled out this green pair from Banana Republic Factory from ages ago.  I really like the color, but just never came up with a good way to wear them.  I decided it was time, and pulled out a few different looks.  I've recently discovered that light long sleeved shirts can actually work great during the summer if you just roll up the sleeves (btw, there's a guide floating around on Pinterest about rolling sleeves like the J. Crew store).  I really like these outfits and am now putting my green shirts to good use!

Dressing for the Young Professional: Black Skimmer Pants

I've become obsessed with J. Crew cafe capri and skimmer pants, because being as tall as I am, I have a hard time finding pants that are long enough.  And well, when they're cropped, you don't have to worry about that! :)  I bought my first pair of black skimmer pants awhile ago, and they are really perfect for work.  I styled them with my new favorite LOFT lace shirt and blush J. Crew belt and switched up the look with a different necklace.  Classic with a fun twist!

Top//LOFT (found in-store, but they have it in a print online) * Skimmer Pants//J.Crew Factory * Patent Belt//J.CrewPastel Necklace//VeryJane * Periwinkle Necklace//Bass Outlet Store (Loving this one!)

Hope you all have good week!  I'm busy writing a paper, studying surgery, and seeing patients!
